Amazon Indigenous Communities call for Peace
The Amazon indigenous communities of Ecuador and Peru were preparing
yesterday in Quito a joint declaration to state the need to "avoid a
conflict" between the two peoples, saud the general coordinator of the
Coordinadora de las Organizaciones Indigenas de la Cuenca Amazonica
(COICA, Coordination of the Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon
Basin), Valerio Grefa. The native leaders of Bolivia, Peru, Brasil,
Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Surinam and Guyana, were holding a meeting
to analyze the activities of the Amazonic organization, as well as to
design the activities and goals for the Decade for indigenous peoples of
the world, that began the past December 10th.
One of the points on the agenda of the meeting was to analyze the recent
incidents between Ecuador and Peru.

Los indigenas amazonicos de Ecuador y Peru preparaban ayer en Quito una
declaratoria conjunta para resaltar la necesidad de "evitar un conflicto"
entre ambos pueblos, informo el coordinador general de la Coordinadora de
las Organizaciones Indigenas de la Cuenca Amazonica (COICA), Valerio Grefa.
Los dirigentes nativos de Bolivia, Peru, Brasil, Venezuela, Colombia,
Ecuador, Surinam y Guyana, efectuan una reunion para analizar las
actividades de la organizacion amazonica, asi como para diseniar las
actividades y metas durante el Decenio de los pueblos indigenas del mundo,
que se inicio el pasado 10 de diciembre.
La agenda de la reunion incluye analizar los recientes incidentes entre
Ecuador y Peru.
